Wesley Sunday School Dancers

As we continue with Youth Month, here is a photo of the dancers from Wesley Mission Sunday School. Please remember the combined Youth function at Park Avenue Methodist Church on Sunday 29 November at 3.30pm.

September is Youth Month

September is Youth Month in the Methodist Church. The services in all societies in Mitchells Plain are being led by various youth departments. At Beacon Ridge on Sunday the confirmation class led the service and assisted with Communion. Here is their youth choir:

On Saturday Wesley Mission youth hosted a sports day at the local indoor centre. Various soccer teams played each and there was a good vibe. On Saturday evening Beacon Ridge youth hosted a modelling show.
On the last Sunday of the month there will be a combined rally at Park Avenue in the afternoon. All welcome - it is not just for young people, but also for the young at heart.

Manna and Mercy

The leaders of both churches as well as some potential leaders at Wesley Mission have just completed a leadership course for the Manna and Mercy Bible study programme. They worked hard, spending two Sunday afternoons and five Monday evenings to get through the material. They also worked on some additional leadership principles.

The programme, developed by Daniel Erlander and Alan Storey, encouraged us all to think about the Bible and especially about issues of power, domination and social justice. Hopefully, these leaders will now pass on what they have learnt to others!

Methodist Rule of Life

On Sunday we asked the question 'how do you measure a life?' A rule of life helps one to set goals against which one can check oneself. John Wesley advocated three broad groups which cover the rule of life for Methodists.

Saamwerk Advanced Courses

Saamwerk have just finished teaching an advanced course on beading and flowers. They also have members who meet together just to do crafts. Numbers were down when I took the photo because of the weather. Most people walk or have to organise a lift to get there.

Refurbishing and Cleaning Up

Wesley Mission have repainted the inside of the building and given the grounds a clean up! The church was looking a bit bare without the blinds, but they are back up now.

Fathers Day

Both Wesley and Beacon Ridge celebrated Fathers' Day with dance items presented by the Sunday Schools and Youth. They also gave gifts to all the fathers.

Helping someone understand

We shared the bridge picture on Sunday. We are all encouraged to commit ourselves to the way of Jesus and become involved in being the change in our community - in bringing about God's kingdom in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Slides on God's Story

We have been continuing our series on Contagious Christianity. These slides are not from the course itself, but are a different way of explaining "God's story", that is a particularly Wesleyan way.
